Acne Questions - Answers

1. I wash my face several times a day. Would my acnes be gone sooner?
Many people still believe that acne is caused by dirty skin. The truth is, no matter how many times you wash the face, it does not help to clear up or prevent acne. Washing does, however, help remove excess surface oils and dead skin cells. Many people use all kinds of products, like alcohol-based cleansers, and rub on the face vigorously. It would not stop you acnes and more terribly, it would irritate the skin further and worsen their acne.

Washing the skin twice, maximum three times, a day gently with water and a suitable cleanser is usually all that is required. The skin would lost its protective function and cause a problem called ‘Irritant Contact Dermatitis' if you wash it too much and too hard.

Not every single acne could be treated by extraction. If you squeeze it too hard by force, you may result in worse i inflammation and bigger cysts. 6. Can I use skin care product when I have acne? Can I apply make up?
For those who always have acne on the face, they usually have some mistaken concept when talking about skin care: they either apply too much stuff on or they do nothing to prevent from more acnes.

In fact, it is necessary to have proper skin care for acne prone people. We suggest you to simply use some oil free and non medicated skin care products when you are on either topical or oral treatment.

Your skin will get quite dry when you are on medication, so moisturizing step is very important during treatment period.

For cosmetic products, it is better to choose those suitable for sensitive skin and only light make up is advised in order to prevent blockage of pores and further growth of acnes. Further, when you remove the make up, it is better to use water-base instead of oil-base make up remover.

7. Can I use those masks that claim to cure acne every day?
People suffering from acne problem always want to eliminate the acne immediately. However, applying facial mask too frequently will not improve the skin condition any better, yet it may irritate the skin even more and make the condition worse. Facial masks for acne skin can be classified into 2 categories: 1) mud-like mask targeting for deep cleaning; 2) mild chemical mask targeting for cuticle removal.

For optimal effect, it is suggested to be used for once to twice a week only. If you apply too frequently on skin, the skin surface will more likely be damaged which leads to some allergic reaction (eg: skin peeling)
