Large Pores/ Acne Scars
Acne scars are caused by improper care of acnes or chicken pox. When we treat the acnes inappropriately, the dermis layer would be damaged, which then leads to the occurrence of keratosis and depressed scars would be formed. The chicken pox scar are usually bigger in size and more difficult to tackle.
Some people may not know how to take care of the skin properly, and they always try to get rid of the pimples by squeezing them. Apparently this is not the best way to do because it will leave some pigments or even scars afterwards. IN fact there are different types of scars that the doctor will decide which treatment will be the most suitable to treat.
Types of Acne Scars
Acne scar is a skin structural problem due to the loss of skin tissues; they appear in different shapes depending on how severe the acnes were or how bad they were mistreated.
Basically, there are there types:
Boxcar Scars
They have angular, well-defined edges, with shape like a box. The depth of the scar is usually very small, no more than 1-1.5mm.
Icepick Scars
They are deep and narrow scars which form pits in the skin look like it has been punctured with an icepick.
Rolling Scars
They have wave-like appearance on the skin surface, and look like they are surrounded by some raised tissue around the edge. This is due to the additional growth of scarring tissues in the semis which force the superficial tissues to push downwards; this is how the depressed scars are formed. Hence a procedure called ‘subcision’ maybe required in order to break up these tissues before any laser treatment is proceeded.
Laser Resurfacing for Acne Scars
New collagen will be produced during the process which helps to smoothen the depressed lesions
Nowadays, acne scars can be treated with satisfactory results due to the more advanced technology in laser skin treatments.
Fractional laser is a strong yet non-invasion laser that uses to treat skin structural problem – acnes scars and enlarged pores. Both Fraxel® re:store and Fraction CO2MedArt610TRxTM are recognized laser appliances that use the fractional technology, which can emit the laser energy into the deep layer of the skin. Very tiny micro wounds are made and they will be healed up within 24 hours. New collagen will be produced during the process which helps to smoothen the depressed lesion. Fraxel® re:store is more suitable for treating large area because of the exclusive design of handpiece whereas Fractional CO2 is good for treating more localized scars and pores.
Functions:
Depending on the skin condition the fractional laser treatment can be done every 3-4 weeks. In general, 70-80% of improvement on acne scars can be seen after 6-8 continuous sessions.
Doctor’s tips
Acnes must be handled with care (Never ever squeeze them) otherwise the inflammation will get worse and leave the lesion some pigments called Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). If the inflammation is severe and reaches the dermis, permanent acne scars will be formed. In the severe cases, doctor will prescribe some medication like Retinal A to control the condition before laser treatment starts.
